Screenshot Ledger

Keep screenshots and screen recordings understandable after they are saved.
Screenshot Ledger organizes files in a folder you choose, creates clearer names, keeps a local history, and writes a Markdown index.

Automatic organization for new files

Choose a Main Folder and Screenshot Ledger can organize newly added screenshot images and screen recordings automatically.

Existing files are protected by default

When you choose to organize only new files, files that already exist in the selected folder are recorded as protected and skipped.

Local OCR-based naming

The app uses local OCR on your Mac to create short, descriptive file names. No screenshots or videos are uploaded to an external server.

Markdown index

A readable Markdown index is generated inside the selected folder so you can review organized files, summaries, tags, status, and processing mode.

History and undo

Review recent organization history and restore supported renamed files back to their original names when needed.

Designed for everyday screenshots

Use it for app review screenshots, build errors, settings screens, screen recordings, product notes, and other visual work records.

How it works

  1. Select the folder where your screenshots and screen recordings are saved.
  2. Choose whether to organize only new files or include existing files as well.
  3. Screenshot Ledger detects supported files, reads visible text locally, and creates safer descriptive names.
  4. The app saves a local history and updates Screenshot Ledger Index/Screenshot_Ledger_Index.md.

Screenshot Ledger does not take screenshots, record your screen, monitor keyboard input, or upload your files. It only works with files inside folders that you select.

System Requirements

Screenshot Ledger requires macOS 15 or later. It is designed for both Intel Macs and Apple silicon Macs.

Supported input files include PNG, JPEG/JPG, HEIC, MOV, and MP4 files in the selected folder.
